The name of this weapon against the privacy is Latitude; in my country there is a popular sentence that describes it “es un lobo con piel de cordero” that means is a wolf in sheep’s clothing!

Chrome

Two days ago a lot of news sites talked about the new web browser created by Google called Chrome, and the comic published for the event at Google’s blog looks so cool. But the first question that I had for myself was “really we need another web browser” and “what the hell, another browser to test EcmaScript and CSS compatibility”. Finally I thought that another web browser isn’t bad idea if it introduces useful features and improves the competence between companies. But there is a point that I don’t like, Google (the new Big Brother) puts a browser in the scene and now the Big Brother can known all that you do in the net , not only the searches by Google. Perhaps we should wait and look for the paths that Chrome and Google takes in the future. And remember that a browser can be that dangerous and malicious that a Ring… “One browser to rule them all, One browser to find them all, One browser to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them.” Ups… I forget to tell that this post have been writen with Chorme and for the moment works apparently fine but it’s a shame that only Windows users can test it

Big Brother is searching for you

Hace unos seis meses publicaba en este blog el enlace de un anunció de Apple del año 1984. El anunció se emitió durante la final de la Super Bowl, fue dirigido por Ridley Scott y está basado en la novela 1984 de George Orwell. El anuncio, a grandes rasgos, mostraba la imagen del Big Brother (representado a IBM) ante una sociedad homogénea y marcial, y a una atleta (con pantalón rojo y camiseta blanca con el logo de Apple) que corre en dirección a la pantalla donde Big Brother está dando un discurso, con un martillo que lanzará a la pantalla. Fue la forma de presentar Macintosh. Por qué os cuento esto, porqué si hace 26 años la hegemonía tecnológica paso de IBM a Microsoft, hoy en día nos encontramos ante un nuevo Gran Hermano, una empresa que controla el mayor buscador de la red, que indexa casi todo el contenido de la red, que guarda todas las búsquedas que los usuarios realizan y que además gratuitamente provee de un número de aplicaciones dónde los usuarios pueden escribir, apuntar sus citas, enviar correo-e, etc. Sí, Google controla una ingente cantidad de información de casi tod@s los usuarios de la red, quizás tanta como su propio nombre indica (1 Gúgol = 10^100). Pero aún peor es la capacidad que tiene ésta empresa para cruzar datos, se dice que disponen del mayor centro de proceso de datos, del mayor clúster de computadoras del mundo. Sin olvidar que entre sus filas cuentan con un elevadísimo número de Genios en computación, matemáticas, etc. trabajando a sus anchas y con una capacidad de innovación desproporcionada. Menudo cóctel para una empresa privada, de momento muestran su cara más amable, aunque se empiezan a ver gestos grotescos como su entrada en el mercado Chino, donde han proporcionado una herramienta al gobierno para poder filtrar la información a la que la población puede acceder, a cambio de poder entrar en el gran pastel que es la economía china. Qué pasará cuando algún gobierno pida a cambio o no de algo, los datos de las consultas que los ciudadanos hacemos… pensadlo bien porqué “Big Brother is watching you” y tiene una memoria de Gúgol.
